USTM Lecturer Highlights Global Significance of Meghalaya Education

Professor GD Sharma, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), represented India and delivered a keynote address at the Global University Associations Forum (GUAF) and ASEAN University Network (AUN) meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was attended by delegates from 10 Asian nations and global university associations.

As India’s representative via USTM and the President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Prof Sharma addressed the theme “Digitalisation in Internationalisation of Higher Education for Innovation, Hybrid Learning with Technology, and Industry Relevance.” He stressed the pivotal role of digitalisation and technology in enhancing the quality of higher education in India and the potential of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in providing versatile, skill-focused education to young people.

Prof. Sharma also highlighted USTM‘s advanced infrastructure and international collaborations, particularly its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Canadian institution. He engaged in productive discussions with academic leaders to promote global higher education partnerships and mentioned an upcoming AUN-QA conference on accreditation that will use NAAC grading as a benchmark.

The event featured distinguished figures from various organizations, including the Asian University Network, European Universities Association, Universities Canada, the China Association of Higher Education, and the Association of Arab Universities, among others.

Prof. Sharma’s participation in this prestigious gathering reflects India’s commitment to fostering international collaborations and embracing digitalisation in higher education to provide students with industry-relevant skills and innovative learning experiences.
