Key Background:

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood reassured parents about the transparency and fairness of the admissions process for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, as the verification of documents for EWS admissions is currently underway. As of March 10, a total of 6,192 records have been successfully verified. In an official statement, Minister Sood highlighted that parents have the option to report any irregularities directly to him if they encounter issues during the verification process. “If there is any irregularity or lack of transparency during the verification, parents may approach me with a complaint or visit my office to lodge their grievances,” Sood said.

The document verification is being conducted at certified verification centers across the city. This step follows the computerized lottery held on March 5, through which 44,045 children were selected from more than 200,000 applicants for admission to nursery, KG, and Class 1 under the EWS quota.

From March 6 to 10, a steady stream of parents attended the verification centers. As of March 10, 7,042 parents had visited the designated centers. Out of these, 4,878 children were issued admission tokens for private schools, while 1,291 parents were informed about missing or insufficient documents. Additionally, four applications were rejected due to document discrepancies. Sood also urged parents to remain vigilant, especially if anyone attempts to take money in exchange for securing EWS quota admissions. He stressed that such incidents should be reported to his office immediately.

The verification process, which involves 29 zones under the Directorate of Education, continues to prioritize the education of deserving children, ensuring that no eligible student is denied access to schooling. Minister Sood reiterated the Delhi Government’s commitment to a fair and transparent admission procedure.
