The Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to reform its educational system, with a focus on boosting education quality. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has repeated plans to integrate government schools within a two-kilometre radius. This strategy attempts to solve teacher shortages and raise overall educational quality in the state.
While speaking with the media on the occasion of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar’s birth anniversary on Sunday, Chief Minister Sukhu expressed worry that Himachal Pradesh now ranks 18th in the country in terms of quality education, signalling the need for significant reforms.
“Opening a university is simple, but we must prioritize performance and quality,” the Chief Minister said. He underlined that private universities must be ranked and evaluated based on their performance. The proposed proposal to consolidate schools within a two-kilometer radius is part of the government’s larger aim to ensure appropriate resources, including instructors, are accessible, stressing excellent education.
Chief Minister Sukhu stated that schools with fewer students and a shortage of teachers are important challenges in providing quality education. By consolidating schools, the government hopes to maximize resources and provide a better educational environment for pupils.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that similar transformative changes would be introduced in other departments. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027 and ensuring that the state’s resources are utilized effectively. “The level of education has deteriorated significantly, and we must make decisive changes,” he said.
