Due to Excessive Rain, Schools were Closed in Few Districts of Tamil Nadu

A holiday has been declared for November 23 in several districts of Tamil Nadu due to the ongoing rains and flooding. It is recommended that parents and students stay in contact with school administration for any updates.

Due to persistent rain and waterlogging conditions, all public and private schools in the districts of Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Viruthunagar, Theni, Pudhukottai, and Nilgiri in Tamil Nadu will remain closed today, November 23. The sources state that district collectors from eight districts have decided to close all schools.

Due to excessive rainfall in the area, the district schools of Puducheery and Karikal announced a holiday on November 22. Puducherry and Karikal received 5 and 9 cm of rain, respectively, in the past 24 hours. The weather forecast department reports that on November 22, 2023, from 08.30 to 17.30 hrs IST, there was light to moderate rainfall in many locations and isolated very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe.

On November 22, Kerala and Tamil Nadu received an orange alert from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD predicted that most areas would see light to moderate rainfall, with sporadic heavy to very heavy downpours and isolated extremely heavy downpours over Kerala. On the same day, the forecast department also predicted isolated areas of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Puducherry and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu.
