Ludhiana

As a step towards the betterment of schools in Ludhiana to increase the quality of education and improvement in infrastructure, District Education Officer (Elementary Education) Ravinder Kaur met Centre Head Teachers of Meritorious School, a local school. It was with the aim to enhance the quality of learning and make all schools maintain the standard set for education.

During the meeting, Kaur stressed the need for implementing ‘Foundation Literacy and Numeracy’ under the NCERT project appropriately so that it can enhance the quality of education to be provided to children from pre-primary up to Class II. She appealed to the school heads to pay attention to developing foundational skills in the younger lot in particular, especially in reading and numerical value.

In addition, the DEO emphasized the need to monitor and review the syllabus and skill development by grades III to V students on a daily basis, which leads toward a more structured and qualitative approach towards learning. Then frequent assessments would lead to tracing students’ progress and understanding of error-prone aspects.

In addition to the academic instructions, Kaur also told the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper infrastructure in schools. She issued special guidelines for keeping the school hygienic so that learning may go on smoothly. DEO directed heads of school to see to it that facilities at their school are kept clean and safe for kids.

This also opened the doors for Kaur to hear and listen to the best practices utilized by many schools in the district, thereby stimulating learning and emulation of some of the strategies adopted in other schools. Collaboration among inter-school leaders is expected to enhance the general standards of education in the district.

Furthermore, the DEO heard from the school heads about some problems of poor teaching service in the school. She assured the group that the department is interested in addressing these issues and will work to provide practical solutions to both teaching and learning experiences in the district.

The meeting is an important aspect of the Ludhiana process of improving education infrastructure and ensuring quality teaching. The proactive approach by the DEO reflects the commitment of the district toward creating a better learning environment for its students.
