After removing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the Tamil Nadu government will release the State Education Policy draft, a source announced on Saturday, May 11. Following the release of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4 (Tuesday), the MCC will be lifted.

In 2021, the Tamil Nadu government declared in the Assembly that it will launch a state-only education policy. Justice D. Murugesan, a retired High Court judge, was appointed to lead a panel that was established in May 2022.

Experts from a variety of various professions and educators make up the panel. Media were informed by sources in the Tamil Nadu Education Department that the State Education Policy draft was available in November 2023.

However, following his conviction in a case, K Ponmudi, the state minister for higher education, resigned from both his position as a legislator and his ministry. The announcement of the Lok Sabha polls resulted in the Model Code of Conduct being implemented, which postponed the publishing of the State Education Policy draft. However, the minister was reinstated after a favorable court judgment.

The final School Education Policy document won’t be revealed for more than three months after the draft is made public, according to sources in the department of school education. A retired professor from Madras University named Dr. Mohammed Rashid told the media that the State Education Policy needed to be released as soon as possible because the decision was made following the announcement of the National Education Policy. He stated that the management of academic institutions had been waiting a long time for the new policy to be announced.
