Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Holds Discussions with Johns Hopkins University Officials on Potential Offshore Campus in India

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan met with a high-level delegation from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) on Sunday to discuss the possible hosting of an offshore campus of the US-based institution in India. “The visiting delegation was led by JHU President Ronald J. Daniels and represents multiple units of the university, including the various units that comprise GKII, or the Gupta-Klinsky India Institute, a collaboration initiated by JHU and Indian institutions to deepen ties in research, education, policy, and practice,” officials said.

The minister on the microblogging site ‘X’, previously known as Twitter, shared insights from the meeting on how the discussions proved very productive. He underlined how Johns Hopkins University can become a hotbed for academic and research collaborations involving India’s premier higher educational institutions. “The discussion was on opportunities to expand partnerships in areas such as dual-degree programs, faculty and student exchanges, and joint research initiatives, particularly in high-tech fields like Data Science and Artificial Intelligence,” Pradhan added.

He appreciated the efforts that JHU continues to make toward establishing academic linkages with India as well as their leadership in global academic exchange.

The meeting also covered more general opportunities for academic partnerships between India and the United States, and senior officials attended from both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of External Affairs. Minister Pradhan congratulated JHU on its significant roles in sharing knowledge across the world and pioneering new horizons in research in educational innovation.

The JHU delegation will visit Indian university campuses and will engage with government officials and academic leaders as part of the visit to India, further identifying potential avenues for collaboration and the expansion of partnerships in higher education.
