Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Wednesday that a four-year Bsc-BEd program has been launched this year at NIT, Agartala, as a pilot project in the state to prepare future educators.
Furthermore, beginning with the upcoming academic year, a number of other universities are anticipated to be granted approval for the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course.
“The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course has been made available by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). This year, NIT, Agartala launched a four-year Bsc-BEd program as a pilot project for the state. “We hope that more colleges will be approved to offer ITEP courses starting in the next academic year,” Saha said on Wednesday at the 13th Legislative Assembly session.
Saha, who is the state’s minister of education, answered a number of inquiries on the state’s District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) colleges during the Assembly session.
He stated that the state now has seven DIET institutions, and that a ninth DIET college is being built in the Panisagar area of the North Tripura district. More teacher recruitment is being planned for the new college.
“The Finance Department has authorized the appointment of eight lecturer jobs in DIET institutions for the fiscal year 2023–2024 as part of this process. Measures are in place to appoint suitable candidates to these roles. For the present academic year, it is not possible to start the teaching program for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) teacher training course at the DIET College under Dhanpur Assembly. The National Council for Teacher Education must provide its approval before this can proceed, the Tripura CM stated.
“However, the newly constructed DIET building is currently being utilised by the Department of Education, SCERT for implementing various programs aimed at teaching and training in-service teachers and head teachers,” the chief minister stated.
