The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) revision committee has recommended that all social science textbooks up to Class 12 refer to “India” as “Bharat.”
The 2022 Social Science committee issued this recommendation, and Prof. C.I. Isaac, the committee chairman, told the media that “we are hoping it will be implemented from next academic year, but it all depends on NCERT.” Historian Isaac received a Padma Shri award.
A significant portion of the new curriculum will be focusing on Indian achievements and victories, according to the committee suggestions. “We have proposed introduction of key historical events that have happened from 1947 to the present day, and the number of hours dedicated for pre-independence incidents can be accordingly reduced,” he continued. “At the moment, the recent history is not reflected in the current NCERT books.”
The Committee has also recommended that the term “classical period of Indian history” be used in place of “ancient history.” He also said that the Committee has decided to include more information about the Indian Knowledge System in the curriculum in order to teach students more about the nation’s accomplishments, history, and culture.
The country had a discussion that started in September over the Union government’s decision to use “President of Bharat” instead of “President of India” in the invitations sent out for the G20 dinner hosted.
