Ignition of the Passion
Dr Priya has always had a deep passion for working with children, finding joy in talking to them and understanding their unique perspectives. This passion was ignited in 2005 when she was seeking admission for her son in a nursery class. During the admission process, she engaged in a conversation with the school director about various topics related to children. At the time, she was practising as a doctor.
Following this conversation, she received an offer to work as an in-house doctor at Ashoka Universal School, an ICSEaffiliated school. This position gave her the opportunity to become involved in the teaching-learning process, which she found to be an exciting and fulfilling experience. She enjoyed learning about child psychology, linking student learning to their developmental milestones, and developing innovative teaching practices. Her journey in child development has been nothing short of a blessing.
As a student, she had the chance to help two students in her neighbourhood with difficult concepts in science and math. When she was able to help these students approach the material in a different way, it was a thrilling experience for her. She continued to teach these students, as well as others, since she was only 14 years old. This early exposure instilled in her the seeds of becoming an educator.
Today, her passion for education continues to grow, and Dr Priya remains committed to helping children learn and grow to their fullest potential. As an educator, she hopes to make a positive impact on children’s lives, empowering them to succeed both academically and personally.
Her father was an engineer and a highly humble person. He had a clear understanding of physics and mathematics and would often explain complex concepts to Dr Aher and her friends when they visited their homes. He had a unique way of teaching, using simple diagrams to make abstract ideas more tangible and easier to understand. Dr Aher remembers these lessons even today.
Her father firmly believed that no child was weak; rather, it was a matter of understanding their problems and providing the right kind of support to help them succeed. He gave Dr Aher the freedom to explore and experiment, allowing her to fail and learn from her mistakes. He was always there to provide a helping hand when needed.
It is because of her father ’s influence that she decided to pursue a career in education. She was inspired by his approach to teaching and his ability to bring out the best in his students. She strives to be like her father in every aspect of her life, imparting knowledge, and wisdom to her students in a way that helps them grow and reach their full potential.
