The Delhi government will conduct Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 on 4 December 2024 with students of Classes 3, 6, and 9 from selected Government and Private Schools. The national survey is part of the effort to measure education’s progress in India and is a key step in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan is an all-inclusive assessment of the education scenario in the country. As per a circular released by the DoE, students from different types of schools such as government, government-aided, central, and private schools would be covered in the survey. The DoE has provided guidelines on how to conduct the survey in the selected schools in detail.
Schools will be open on the day of the survey but all other activities will be suspended. Both morning and evening shifts, in which students, teachers, and school heads from the selected grades will be asked to present, will be included. In particular, the heads of the institutions are tasked to fill up a school-specific questionnaire, while the teachers will be required to fill up another questionnaire regarding the students.
The survey will be observed by a team consisting of an observer and a field investigator, who will be in the school before the morning assembly to oversee the whole process. Schools are required to prepare a designated room for the survey, ensuring it is spacious, well-lit, and located on the ground floor. The selected room must be equipped with 30 students, proper ventilation, sanitation, and access to drinking water. In addition, attendance registers for the selected students must also be provided to the field investigator.
The DoE also detailed specific guidelines for the handling of survey materials, including that the assessment should be done using a blue or black ballpoint pen. All materials, including OMR sheets and question booklets, should be returned to the observer and field investigator once the survey is completed.
The DoE has specified additional provisions for students with special needs, such as an extra 30 minutes to complete the test and the provision of a scribe if required. The initiative is a national-level study that will be reported at the district level; it will not include rankings or comparisons between individual schools.
This survey aims to enhance the educational standards across the country, providing valuable insights into the strengths and areas for improvement in the Indian education system.
